The Gym

Tops Fitness is the oldest gym in Wakefield. We have been serving our local community for over 35 years. We are a relaxed, friendly gym providing a personal service for your health and fitness goals. We have older members who have been with us for over 25 years and are also happy to see the younger gym members who go to the local schools.

We love what we do, we know our regular gym goers by name and feel everyone is part of #teamtops. We get an amazing amount of support from our members and feel they are part of our family. We are the friendly gym in Wakefield.

Whether you are a first timer, experienced gym user, athlete, bodybuilder, disabled or want some personal motivation to achieve your goals, Tops Fitness can support you.

You have the choice to join us monthly, 6 monthly or annually. If you are unsure about your commitments or are in the area for a short while or just feel like a work out we accept ‘pay as you gym’.

Steve Johnson Coaching

For over 30 years Steve has been part of Tops Fitness, with his father and now Tops Fitness & Rehabilitation with his two partners, during which time he has become one of the most successful and respected body builders in the UK. Steve has many titles to his name and achieved national success on many occasions. He is currently Masters NABBA Mr Britain and in 2016 finished 2nd in the World Championships in Brazil and Mr Universe held in the UK.

Steve considers his greatest achievement in being awarded the “Lifetime Achievement” gong at the National Fitness Awards in 2016 for his services to the Fitness Industry. Steve is also a recognised official bodybuilding judge and judge to the National Fitness Awards. He is a successful bodybuilding coach and has looked after many champions.

Personal Training

Whatever your fitness level or goals, personal training can help you to become fitter, healthier and reach your personal targets.

Sometimes we need that extra encouragement, support, advice and motivation, from beginner to experienced athlete. Many people lose heart because they simply don’t see the results they expected. Imagine having your own expert to motivate you, monitor your progress and ensure you’re focusing on the right exercises. A Tops personal trainer, will help you reach your goals so much faster and have fun while you’re at it. Whether you want to tone up or build muscle, sculpt your physique to get your figure back after a baby there is no better way to achieve this.

Our personal trainers are here to educate and ensure you remain focused and moving towards your fitness goals. If you are serious about working out, our Personal Trainers can help you push to the next level.


We run a limited number of classes for gym members and non gym members. We have a 6 week Pilates course on a monday evening. Zumba on a Tuesday evening at 6.15 and Aeroconditioning on a Thursady evening at 6.15pm.

These classes are small and run by qualified instructors. Please give us a call if you would like to book a class.

Health food meals, eat fresh, feel good!

Lee the managing director has been a chef for 16 years, he spent 6 years running the kitchen as head chef at a busy Italian upmarket restaurant. Lee also has a passion for body building and has a great knowledge of fitness and nutrition. He has always prepped his own meals, meals for friends and others were asking him to help with their competition diets too, this is when he had a lightbulb moment and decided it was time to put his passion to work and open a meal prep kitchen.

LD Nutition opened in September 2016 and quickly grew from 600 meals in the first week to 2500 meals 12 weeks later. With more and more sutlers contacting LD Nutrition daily. LD Nutition have gained contracts with Sports Clubs, Gyms and places of work. Due to popular demand  the business has expanded and a second meal prep kitchen has been opened in Castleford.

All dietary requirements can be met so please contact Lee if there are any questions on this.

We are aiming to cater for people who want a healthier diet, want to lose weight, but are maybe extremely business their life, so these meals are on-the-go healthy option food.
