Acquired Brain Injury

A brain injury is caused by trauma to the head, tumour, infection or haemorrhage. ABI includes complications such as damage caused by lack of oxygen, rising pressure and swelling in the brain.

The brain is our control centre and any injury to it will have damaging affects to your function.

Aquired brain injury has potentially life changing consequences for you and your family. Every traumatic brain injured person is affected differently; all will be affected in some way for life. A brain injury can affect the way you move, speak, see, eat, perform or coordinate activities. During your rehabilitation in hospital, you will have had a multidisciplinary team working with you but once out in the community you may be looking for a team to support you in achieving your potential.

You will need the right advice and to work with experienced neuro physiotherapists to assist you achieve improvements to help you enjoy a good quality of life.

The neuro physiotherapist will perform a detailed assessment to establish your problems and then work with you and your support, in small steps to achieve your goals.
